Locust
Intro-This is a tale that’s the kind that’s passed down from one generation to another. Celebrated nearly every year. It has become tradition.
Prologue-
He sat on his bed watching space. A moment of total silence, for once he could finally rest. This is Jim Rayan mechwarrior he was assigned to scout a planet that neither I nor others really know about. None know his true origins some speculate he was from this organization or another, but it doesn’t really matter either way now does it? All that matters is that he was the greatest mechwarrior to ever live. This calm moment of silence was broken abruptly by a combination of flashing red lights and loud sirens. A man, tall with dark brown hair, burst through the door. “Lets move quick something has happened down at the planet surface.” With that they both made their way to the elevator. “Don’t you hate when these things are on a different floor?” said the man. “I hate when you complain about it John” said Jim with a small smirk. The elevator finally came to their floor. They walked in and John pressed the button labeled ‘Hanger’. The elevator was old and sort of shook as it went down. It let out a great stop as it got to the floor. The doors opened, and they walked out to see the commander waiting for them. “You two! We have gotten an urgent distress signal from some scout units we sent down to the surface so were sending you guys. Oh, and the new recruit Shawn is going with you he is a smart one him.” Said the commander. Shawn walked up behind them. “Its in honor to pilot with you guys.” He said. All 3 of them grabbed their helmets and jumped in their chosen mech. Jim got into his Locust. The computer said “Welcome back mechwarrior as he climbed in.”
Chapter 1
A slight scare.
He powered the mech up and walked it over to the landing craft. He powered his mech down for the landing to the surface. He was feeling curious so he decided to listen to the original greeting from the people of the planet. He played the message after hitting a few buttons and what responded was a buzz, and then generic robotic like talking “Replay Message 9-1.” “Hello (static) we welcome you to our humble planet and hope that you find whatever you’re looking for here. Drol evas su.” He clicked a few more buttons and the last part replayed. “Drol evas su.” This time he pressed one button and replayed it backwards “Lord save us.” In astonishment he picked up his radio. “That greeting wasn’t a greeting it was an S.O.S!” Alas it was too late and the orbital craft dropped off the ship. A huge amount of turbulence came from entering orbit and then a sudden stop and a crash. Things flew everywhere mechs were destroyed crew was flung against the walls. It ended in most mechs being severely damaged and pilots unconscious or mechs destroyed totally which most were. When Jim came too there were two mechs left standing in the area, but one was nearly destroyed and didn’t seem to move the other was turning towards him. “Hey Jim. Glad to see your ok. I just woke up recently myself.” John said from his madcat’s radio. The surrounding area was hilly on both sides with a pillar of smoke to the east. “I just established radio contact with the others. I will transmit the transmission to you now.” John said. “What in the world (static) that.” Said one. “Get out of he- (feighnt sound of an explosion)” said another. “Transmission ended” said a robotic voice from the computer. “Hmm that must be what command was talking about. Lets move out to that pillar of smoke.” Said Jim. At that moment a laser hit right in front of him. He saw a catapult and a barghest sitting on the hill opposite of that with the smoke. The locust darted forward running at the catapult. He engaged his jump jets machine gun fire nearly hitting him. He landed on the mechs head. For a second it was as if time paused he looked into the enemy cockpit to see a fire inside of it. The pilot reached out as if for help as he was burning. This was broken soon when he noticed the barghest. He reengaged jump jets and turned to fire at the barghest ,but the pilot was obviously a good one pulling off a mule kick and knocking him straight to the ground as he fired a medium laser that just nicked the it. The madcat opened fire with it’s LRMs hitting the barghest hard in the left leg blowing it off and in the turret blowing that off too. The locust stood and fired a LRM at the barghest ,but by this time the pilot had ejected. “Command is recalling this mission ,but we have no chance to get back so we are forced to continue.” He said reading some information from his computer. There were 2 more catapults coming from the hill in front of the pillar of smoke. “Two bogeys behind us Jim!” John said. They opened fire hitting John’s madcat and hit him in the back disabling it. Jim turned around and ran straight in between the catapults. They turned to fire at him and fired, but by the time they fired Jim and had passed them and they hit each other disabling both of them. Jim now over the hill stopped for a moment. “John are you ok? And where did Shawn go?” he asked over the radio. “I’m ok ,but I am to hurt to go on. I don’t think shawn made it…His mech survived ,but was nearly destroyed.” He said ,and then let out a sigh and fell unconscious. Jim saw 3 atlas’ approaching him. He ran forward at the first ,engaged his jump jets, then kicked and disengaged his jump jets. This maneuver crushed the Atlas’ head in killing the unlucky pilot. He turned to the other one which fire and blew his right arm off. The cockpit shook violently back and forth. 5 workmechs ran at full speed over to the locust, obviously forester mechs, They attacked the Atlas’ with the chain saws cutting them down. Only 3 remained after the fight. The other 2 had been blasted to oblivion by the Atlas’ large laser volleys. 5 more atlas’ came from the city and picked the work mechs off 1 by 1 with their laser volleys. When only the locust remained they fired. His mech was nearly destroyed. He picked up his radio to give a final goodbye and all the suddedn he hears “Yeehaa!” through the radio a Vtol swoops in and drops bombs on top of the atlas’. This causes a chain reaction of explosions killing every atlas’. Jim’s mech limps over to a nearby ruined building. He sees a child crying in the rubble as he gets out of his mech. He walks over to him and stretches a hand out. The child grabs his hand.End Chapter 1
